New governing rules for New Brunswick municipalities take effect
Now that the New Year is here, New Brunswick municipalities have more power to govern.
The province's new Local Governance and Community Planning Acts officially replaced the Municipalities and Community Planning Act on January 1st.
The long-awaited rules give municipalities more autonomy and the freedom to address local issues.
Petit-Rocher's mayor and New Brunswick Association of Francophone Municipalities president Luc DesJardins says he's pleased with the changes, but worries the rules will be more beneficial to larges municipalities.
