New protocol for opening up adoption records falls short, says N.B. man
A New Brunswick man who fought almost two decades to access his adoption records says changes that are now in effect don't go far enough.
A new protocol for opening up adoption records in the province came into force on Sunday, more than 15 years after Garth McCrea suffered a heart attack at the age of 37 that started the adopted man's fight for access to his medical history.
McCrea says he's now hoping to learn more for both his own sake and that of his children, but says that under the changes, the biological parent or adopted child can still veto any information from being shared.
The Prince Edward Island government is also looking at the possibility of opening up adoption information.
