New Senator's priorities include arts & culture, human rights, and youth

The National Acadian Society says the Acadian community is delighted to have a key ally on Parliament Hill.

Society president Rene Cormier was appointed to the Senate yesterday.

The Caraquet native says he wants to contribute to modernizing the senate while drawing more attention to arts and culture, protection of minorities, human rights, education and youth.

More than 2,700 Canadians applied for 21 seats in the Red Chamber, with two more batches of Senators expected to be appointed in the coming days.
