New social media bylaw on the way for Town of Dalhousie
Dalhousie wants a new bylaw that would restrict what councillors and municipal employees can post on social media.
Under the new rules, only the Mayor or his/her delegate would be permitted to transmit information to the press or post it on social media.
However, the rules would not prevent councillors from taking questions from 'real media' organizations following debates or public decisions.
The bylaw comes months after former councillor Mickey Maloney was removed from council, partly for posting his personal views about council business in a Facebook group against the mayor's wishes.
The bylaw is still required to pass three public readings.
