Newfoundland & Labrador and Quebec at odds over hydroelectric project
(CP) - Newfoundland and Labrador's finance minister says she's disappointed with Quebec for calling on Ottawa to reject her province's plea for financial help.
Cathy Bennett is seeking further loan guarantees for the Muskrat Falls hydro project, estimated to cost 11.4 billion dollars.
Bennett says Quebec recently announced a 2.2-billion-dollar surplus in the 2015-16 fiscal year and received 10-billion dollars in equalization payments during the same period.
Quebec leaders argue the province didn't receive federal help to develop its hydroelectric resources and that Newfoundland shouldn't get any either.
