No commitment from province on Janeville to Bertrand connection

There's still no commitment from New Brunswick's Premier on a new highway from Janeville to Bertrand.

Bertrand Mayor Yvon Godin says the Acadian Peninsula is one of the only areas of the province not connected by a major highway which leaves it at an economic disadvantage.

Premier Brian Gallant tells the Northern Light his government is always open to listening to the needs of communities and will continue to work to identify the type of investments required to grow the economy and improve New Brusnwickers' quality of life.

Bathurst Mayor Paolo Fongemie says the Chaleur Region and Acadian Peninsula are losing the competitive edge when it comes to exports.

Fongemie expects the highway to become an election issue.
