No municipal bailout for Festival Acadien de Caraquet
Caraquet says it won't be coughing up money to bail out its annual Acadian Festival.
Last month the Acadie-Nouvelle reported the festival ran a $153,000 shortfall in 2018 due to overestimated sponsorship revenues, a decline of ticket and alcohol sales as well as tourist traffic, and the last minute withdrawal of a provincial grant.
Mayor Kevin Hache says the town will work with organizers to make sure its flagship event continues but adds the municipality can't afford to wipe out the debt.
Organizers have already trimmed year's budget to $750,000 from $925,000 and have not asked council for more money.
