No tax increase or reduced services for Bathurst in 2018
Bathurst has passed a balanced budget with no tax increase or reduced services for its citizens.
The $31.4 million budget was unanimously passed by council on Monday night.
The budget includes:
- $5,164,990 for the Bathurst Police Department, down from last year's $5,418,710.00;
- $2,391,117 for the Bathurst Fire Department, up 7.57 per cent from last year's $2,222,846.00;
- The KC Irving Centre will get $2,142,201, an increase of 7.19 per cent over last year's allocation.
Mayor Paolo Fongemie says the budget also includes a $267,000 reserve fund that can be used for emergencies or to invest in infrastructure projects.
Funds have also been earmarked for continued park maintenance and upkeep as well as repair and and maintenance to the city's roads, sidewalks, and storm sewers.
A new emphasis will also be put on municipal and economic growth strategies.
