Northeastern New Brunswick fishermen hope for piece of $250 million from Federal budget

Northeastern New Brunswick fishermen are hoping for a piece of $250 million earmarked for renovating and repairing small wharfs in this year's federal budget.

More than 250 fisherman from Savoie Landing and Le Goulet launched a petition last year calling for the dredging of the LeGoulet channel in order to access the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Fisherman Denis Hache says the passage is narrow, shallow, and dangerous.

Meanwhile, fishermen at Tabusintac's McEachern's Wharf are hoping for money to expand their facility which they says is now too small to accommodate the nearly 40 lobster boats that dock there.
