Nova Scotia RCMP investigating death of inmate at Dorchester Penitentiary
An investigation into the death of a New Brunwick inmate has been handed over to the Nova Scotia RCMP.
33-year-old Matthew Hines died while in custody at the Dorchester Penitentiary last year.
CBC News reported Hines was beaten and repeatedly pepper sprayed by guards after he refused to return to his cell.
He was later pronounced dead at a Moncton hospital.
A previous report by the Correctional Service of Canada says prison guards use 'inappropriate' force.
Hines was from Cape Breton.
