Ontario man fined $169K in connection with illegal tobacco bust near Edmundston
One of two Ontario men charged in connection with a major illegal tobacco seizure near Edmundston last fall has been fined nearly $170,000.
27-year-old Aniss Samer of Kitchener was arrested after Mounties seized more than 113,000 illegal cigarettes during a check stop in Saint-Jacques.
He pleaded guilty to charges under the Tobacco and Excise Acts in Edmundston on Tuesday and was fined a total of $169,756.80.
Charges against the second man, a 45-year-old, also from Kitchener, were dropped.
