Ottawa releases first report on influence of climate change on Atlantic Ocean
The federal government has released the first of what will be regular reports examining how the Atlantic Ocean is being influenced by climate change.
Fisheries Minister Jonathan Wilkinson says in a release that Atlantic Ocean waters are warming, causing rising sea levels, changes to ocean currents and more acidic water.
Wilkinson says the changes are having serious impacts on the health of Atlantic Ocean ecosystems including shellfish, fish, marine mammals and seabirds.
Reports on the state of the ocean are to be released every four years to help improve management decisions for the ocean, fisheries and coastal infrastructure.
