Ottawa tightens security measures for some Canada-bound flights
The federal transport minister says he is turning up the dial on airline security measures for certain Canada-bound flights, but details are few and far between.
Marc Garneau says the move is based on the government's evaluation of risk and noted that similar measures had been put in place before.
When pressed for further details, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said the actions were not taken lightly and they were based on evidence.
The announcement follows an earlier decision by the U-S and Britain that prohibited certain electronic devices from airline cabins on flights coming from several countries in the Middle East and Africa.
Garneau added that such devices would continue to be permitted in Canadian airline cabins.
