Ottawa to discuss influx of asylum seekers entering Canada from the US
(CP) - The Trudeau cabinet will meet this week for in-depth talks over how to deal with the rising number of asylum seekers illegally crossing the border into Canada from the U-S.
The government is under growing pressure to put more resources into the refugee determination process and the agencies that support newcomers.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale visited Emerson, Manitoba on the weekend where as many as 200 illegal border crossings have taken place so far this year.
But he says no criminal charges can been laid while asylum claims are being heard.
