P.E.I. man charged in Saint-Basile armed robbery

A 33-year-old man from Charlottetown, P.E.I is facing charges after an armed robbery in Saint-Basile, New Brunswick that sent a man and a woman to hospital.

Saint Leonard RCMP responded to a call for an armed robbery around 7:00 p.m. on September 16 at a residence in the Saint-Basile Local Service District.

Police say a man, armed with a knife, entered a home and demanded money from the residents.

RCMP say a man and a woman were taken to hospital with non-life threatening in juries after an altercation with the suspect.

Shawn Casey Smith appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court on October 30 where police say he was charged with two counts of robbery and one count each of possession of a weapon for a dengerous purpose, being unlawfully in a dwelling-house and breach of probation.

He was remanded into custody and has another court appearance scheduled for January 11, 2019.
