Petition demanding trial for officers who fatally shot Michel Vienneau received by Attorney General

Friends and family of 51-year-old Tracadie business man Michel Vienneau, who was shot and killed by Bathurst police in 2015, presented a 2,000 signature petition to the province's Attorney General earlier this week in an effort to order the two officers to trial.

Last month a judge ruled there was not enough evidence to order Constables Mathieu Boudreau and Patrick Bulger to trial.

But Attorney General Serge Rouselle says ordering a trial isn't within his mandate and that any decisions pertaining to charges or appeals would fall on New Brunswick's Public Prosecution office.

Prosecutors are reviewing the case, however it's not yet known if there will be an appeal.
