'Phantom Ship' monument planned for downtown Bathurst
Bathurst is hoping to cash in on the legend of the Phantom Ship of the Bay of Chaleur.
Mayor Paolo Fongemie says the city wants to build a monument to the Phantom Ship near the Promenade Water Front this summer in an effort to promote tourism, a similar idea to Shediac's giant lobster.
The city hopes to garner financial support from Fredericton and Ottawa for the estimated $150,000 to $200,000 project.
Fongemie says the project aims to highlight the region's culture and could result in jobs like tour guides and storytellers.
