Phase 3 work on Centennial Bridge rehabilitation to soon begin

The Centennial Bridge in Miramichi could open to full traffic in about a month's time, and no lane closures are anticipated next year.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser told the Miramichi Leader that work on Phase 2, which included blasting, painting, and minor steel work, ended earlier this week, and Phase 3 will soon begin.

Fraser says there could be full closures from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. between now and the middle of November, but they should be few and far between.

Concrete work is underway and will continue through next year, with no impact on traffic expected as it's all under the bridge itself.

The bridge recently turned 50, and it's hoped the multiple year's worth of rehabilitation work will extend its lifetime by another 50 years.
