Pointe-Verte group has idea to repurpose school

The Sejour Jeunesse school in Pointe-Verte could remain a place of learning, even after it shuts down at the end of the school year due to declining student enrolment.

A group of citizens want to see it repurposed for teaching disappearing traditional trades like cabinetmaking, shoemaking or furniture upholstery with the gymnasium used to teach different sports disciplines.

Euclide Chiasson says there are many trades not offered at colleges and that there are many seniors able to pass on their knowledge to a younger generation.

Should the project come to fruition it would be administered by a non-profit organization run by a board of directors.
