Police seize 53,000 illegal cigarettes in northern N.B.
Three people have been charged after the seizure of 53,000 contraband cigarettes during a pair of traffic stops.
RCMP say more than 34,000 were found during a vehicle stop on Mountain Road in Campbellton early Friday afternoon, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman from Halifax.
An hour and a half later, police say a vehicle was pulled over for speeding on Highway 11 near Petit-Rocher and 19,000 illegal cigarettes were seized.
A 58-year-old man from Landry Office was arrested.
All three people are charged with possession of unstamped tobacco under the Excise Act.
