Province announces funding for literacy programs, including Born to Read

New Brunswick has announced funding for two literacy programs that provide new parents with a free bag of books suitable for reading to infants.

Finance Minister Cathy Rogers says the Born to Read program and its French-language equivalent are receiving 150-thousand dollars.

The programs prepared about 75-hundred packages for New Brunswick families last year that also included information outlining the importance of early childhood literacy.

In addition to its core funding this year, Born to Read has received a grant to produce an Indigenous-themed book and also to create an online educational video for parents to complement their package of books.
