Province examines water quality issues at Parley Beach and Shediac Bay watershed

(CP) - The New Brunswick government says officials are looking into some ongoing water quality issues at Parlee Beach and in the Shediac Bay watershed.

The evaluation is to determine how to improve the current water quality testing and rating system, which dates back to 2001, and to update it in time for the 2017 beach season.

The province says it's considering recommendations for better public communication about water quality results, including posting results online and increasing on-site signage.

The government says it's also working with academic and private sector experts to identify sources of contamination throughout the watershed, which should help efforts to address and mitigate the problem.
