Red Pine Landfill to begin producing electricity in September

Methane gas generated at the Red Pine landfill in Allardville will be converted to enough electricity to power roughly 135 homes beginning in September.

The project is expected to produce around 6000 megawatt hours annually and will cost around $3.2 million to set up.

The electricity will be sold to NB Power for a period of 20 years and provide the Chaleur Regional Service Commission with addition revenue.

Commission Chair and Beresford Mayor Jean-Guy Grant says a return on investment is estimated within five to seven years.
