Removal of Spring Weight Restrictions
The Department of Transportation and infrastructure says spring weight restrictions will be lifted from highways across the province over the next two weeks.
In a press release, the government says the weight restrictions on highways in Southern New Brunswick will be lifted on Sunday May 12, while in Northern New Brunswick, the restrictions will be lifted at midnight on Sunday May 19.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Oliver says, "due to recent flooding and rain, the ground remains saturated in several areas ... as a result, some of our secondary routes will remain weight-restricted or closed to trucks until the road conditions improve."
The province says weight restrictions for trucks are imposed each year to protect highways from damage during the spring thaw.
Engineers are authorized to close roads to trucks or to impose weight restrictions on highways or portions of highways at any time to protect them.
