Restigouche & Avignon Counties consider bidding for 2024 Acadian World Congress

New Brunswick's Restigouche County and Avignon County in Quebec are considering joining forces to host the World Acadian Congress in 2024.

The plan would see Congress activities take place in both provinces with Campbellton and Pointe-a-la-Croix being the central point.

Pointe-a-la-Croix mayor Pascal Bujold says the move would be an opportunity to strengthen the bond between the two regions which, not only already share some services but common Acadian roots and a rich history dating back hundreds of years.

The application deadline is May 10th and Bujold says organizers would have until October to see if the regions' municipalities are on-board with hosting the event.

A joint World Acadian Congress had been considered between the Chaleur, Restigouche, and Gaspe regions, however that changed following new rules concerning the allowed distance between conference activities.
