Roses Radiothon surpasses fundraising goal

An annual radiothon to help improve the lives of cancer patients in the Chaleur region has once again reached its goal.

Organizers of the Roses Radiothon say a total of $101,505 was raised on Friday, surpassing their goal of $100,000.

Much of that money will be used to buy electronic chairs and electronic pressure monitors for the oncology clinic at the Chaleur Regional Hospital.

Since opening in 2006, the clinic has had over 21,000 patient visits and has administered more than 9,300 chemotherapy treatments.

About half of the money raised on Friday – just under $60,000 – will go towards meeting the needs targeted by the annual campaigns of the three foundations on the Acadian Peninsula.
