The New Brunswick Acadian Society is calling on Ottawa to do its homework, and end end the so-called 'Black Hole' of employment insurance.
The 'Black Hole' is the period between when an EI recipient's benefits run out and their return to work.
Acting president Joey Couturier the status quo just isn't working and living conditions of several citizens are deteriorating at a break-neck speed.
He wants Jean-Yves Duclos, the federal minister responsible for EI, to create a new and better program designed by the people who need it, that would adapt to ever-changing local realities, consider cyclical seasonal unemployment, and rurality.
Couturier is calling on Duclos to form a working committee to study the program's problems.
