SCC Justice Clement Gascon cites mental illness as reason for disappearance

Supreme Court Justice Clement Gascon is being praised for speaking publicly about his struggles with mental illness.

Gascon released a statement Wednesday regarding his brief disappearance last week, which prompted his family to file a missing persons report.

Gascon says he suffered a panic attack last week, adding that he has long dealt with depression and anxiety.

Chief Justice Richard Wagner says the statement by Gascon was courageous, and that he and his colleagues are proud of Gascon and he still has his full support and confidence.

Independent M-P and former justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould thanked Gascon for sharing his struggle with depression and anxiety.

Gascon says while he can't erase what happened, he intends to put it behind him.
