Second man convicted of breaking into flooded Maugerville home

A second man accused of trying to loot a home in New Brunswick's flood zone last May has been convicted of breaking and entering.

Three men were accused of trying to break into the home in Maugerville but were forced to flee in a canoe when they were chased by the owner, one of the few area residents who had not evacuated the area during the historic floods.

CBC reports that a Fredericton judge said nothing was taken but that wasn't necessary to convict Brandon Drew Hatchard of breaking into the home with intent to steal.

A second man earlier pleaded guilty to the same charge while a verdict is to be delivered next week in the trial of the third.
