Security concerns behind changes to passport offices
Security concerns are said to be behind changes the federal government has been making at passport offices.
Civil servants in passport and other government offices have for years faced bomb threats and hostility from individuals who are drunk, disgruntled or suffering mental illnesses.
But internal government documents show senior officials have worried more recently that someone with extremist views might see a passport office as a prime target for an attack.
Along with physical changes to offices to boost security, operational changes have included letting Canadians renew their passports online to reduce office traffic.
