Speed skater with Bathurst connection mines gold, breaks record at Pyeongchang Winter Games
An Canadian Olympic speed skater with ties to the Chaleur region has won gold at the Pyeongchang Winter Games.
Calgary's Ted-Jen Bloemen took gold in the men's 10,000 metres on Thursday.
Bloemen, who holds the world record in distance, broke the Olympic time record with a time of twelve minutes 39.77 seconds.
His father, Gerhard-Jan Bloemen was born in Bathurst in 1957, and lived in Canada until moving to Holland in 1964.
