Statistical dead of winter just around the corner, top climatologist says

(CP) - The country's top climatologist says the Canadian winter is turning the corner.

Dave Phillips says depending on where you are in the country, the statistical ``dead of winter'' is either already behind you -- or it's coming up soon.

The point is calculated by noting the average temperature for each day of the year and finding the lowest point.

In Vancouver it was last Wednesday, while in Halifax it's not until early next month.

Phillips says he thinks it should be a national holiday for winter-haters.
