Teen facing charges after hitting police car, fleeing
Police say a 16-year-old boy from Smiths Crossing has been charged with several offences after fleeing from an RCMP checkstop in Blackville.
RCMP say officers tried to stop a vehicle traveling on Route 8 on the evening of January 4 when the driver tried to avoid the police checkstop, struck a police vehicle and drove his vehicle toward a police officer before fleeing.
Police say they followed the vehicle, which ended up leaving the road and going into the ditch on South Renous Road and the driver was arrested.
RCMP say the teen, who cannot be named as he is under 18-years-old, appeared in court in Miramichi on Monday and was charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon, mischief causing danger to life, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.
He was released on a judge's undertaking with several conditions and is due back in court on January 18.
