Toronto-based company with operations near Bathurst sells over 15K hectares of land in N.B.

A Toronto-based company with a sawmill operation near Bathurst has sold more than 15,000 hectares of mostly forest in one of the largest land deals in New Brunswick's history.

The Kilmer Group, who operates Fornebu Lumber Company Inc., sold the land in two transactions totalling $12.3 million to NBH Timberland (Nova Scotia) Ltd., though a Halifax land broker known for finding private islands for wealthy buyers from Europe and Asia.

The land is located mainly between Doaktown and Miramichi.

The sale is one of the largest transactions in the province since 2006 when JD Irving Ltd. purchased 90,000 hectares from Bowater.
