Two Acadian Peninsula mayors to pitch amalgamation to neighbouring communities
Two mayors on the Acadian Peninsula say it's time for their villages to join forces to create a single municipality.
Saint-Leolin Mayor Mathieu Chayer and Grand-Anse Mayor Reginald Boudreau announced their plan to create the new municipality of Acadie-Mer last week.
The new community could include surrounding local service districts, Maisonnette, Anse-Blue, Dugas, Poirier Village, Pacquetville and Bertrand.
Boudreau says the move would see communities retain their identities, but split the cost on things like policing and fire services as well as waste management.
