UNB Athletes of the Week
1st Year Bachelor of Arts
The UNB Reds/Papa John’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week is Tamina Kehler, from the women’s hockey team.
The first year forward had a strong weekend as the Reds scored a 3-2 upset win over U SPORTS No. 7 Saint Mary’s, on Friday, and a 3-1 win over Dal, on Sunday.
Kehler scored the game winning goal in Sunday’s victory and was named the game’s first star.
“Tamina had two great games for us this weekend,” said Reds head coach Sarah Hilworth. “She’s been working hard and getting opportunities to help us be successful.”
Kehler and her teammates are home to Moncton on Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm.
4th Year Kinesiology
The UNB Reds/Papa John’s Pizza male Athlete of the Week is Dan Walker, from the men’s soccer team.
Walker was a steady force as the Reds marched to Atlantic University Sport championship game.
In Thursday’s quarter-final win over Moncton, Walker scored one goal on three shots on net.
In Friday’s dramatic semi-final win over St FX, the fourth-year striker pressured the X-Men with four shots.
In Sunday’s final, Walker registered another shot in a solid performance at both ends of the turf.
Twice, Walker was named UNB’s player of the game.
“Dan continued the fine form from the regular season and carried it into the playoffs,” said Reds head coach Miles Pinsent. “He had a big presence in all three of our games in the conference championship tournament.”
Walker and the Reds will compete at the U SPORTS men’s soccer championship, at the University of British Columbia, Nov. 8-11.
