Unionized workers at Brunswick Smelter in Belledune continue job action

Unionized workers at the Brunswick Smelter in Belledune have been on the picket line a little over a week now and a court-ordered injunction remains in place.

The Northern Light reports the order, which allows only six members to picket at each entrance of the smelter at a time,  will remain in effect until a full hearing scheduled for tomorrow.

The union has said it would return to negotiations provided Glencore remove concessions for workers from the table.

Glencore meanwhile, says that's unsustainable and that a new contract needs to reflect the reality of 2019.

The workers are concerned with pensions, benefits, safety representation, and the union's ability to represent them.

They've been without a contract since February.
