Unionized workers at Brunswick Smelter in Belledune vote in favour of strike

Unionized workers at the Brunswick Smelter in Belledune have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike.

The workers have been without a contract since the end of February and the union has been trying to negotiate a new deal for months.

Union's Bart Dempsey says workers voted 99 per cent in favour of job action.

He says Glencore is demanding more concessions from workers on several key issues including pensions, benefits, and the union's ability to represent them.

Dempsey says the union is waiting to hear back from the mediator to determine its next course of action.
