Police say a fire that destroyed a walking bridge on New Brunswick's Acadian Peninsula is being treated as suspicious.

The RCMP and fire crews were called to the wooden walking bridge in Inkerman shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

The bridge is part of the Sentier New Brunswick Trail system, and is used by walkers, cyclists, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles.

Police say the investigation is continuing with the help of the Fire Marshal's Office, and anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
