***UPDATED: Lobster season in some northeast N.B. areas begins Friday
Some lobster harvesters in Northeastern New Brunswick will begin setting their traps on Friday morning while others may have to wait at least a few more days.
Department of Fisheries and Oceans' Krista Petersen says the season in the 23D sub-area, from Escuminac to Neguac, will get underway Friday at 6am.
Sub-areas 23A and B, from Dalhousie to Miscou, are scheduled to open at 6am on Saturday and will close on July 4th.
An opening date for sub-area 23C, from Miscou to Neguac, is expected in the coming days.
The area's lobster season was scheduled to get underway on Tuesday, however was delayed due to winds and icy conditions.
The department is reminding fish harvesters to take extra care when navigating on the opening day as vessels are loaded with gear and traps.
Harvesters are encouraged to act diligently in setting their traps and should ensure that vessels are loaded safely by reducing the quantity of gear if necessary.
