***Updated on Thursday, March 9th
Police say a 72-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a car while crossing Saint Peter Avenue in Bathurst on Monday.
Const. Jeff Chiasson with the Bathurst Police Force says the incident happened around 7:15 p.m. and that the woman died a short time after being hit, despite efforts from witnesses and paramedics.
She has been identified by family members as Yvonne Marie Gray and is being remembered as a kindhearted, outgoing person, who always stood by her children.
Chiasson says Gray did not use a crosswalk and that she was crossing in the middle of the road, away from any intersection.
The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was not hurt.
Chiasson says it's too early to say whether he'll face charges.
