US/Canada border issues to be discussed in coming weeks
(CP) - Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says he will meet soon with his Washington counterpart John Kelly, though no date has been set yet.
Goodale says the plan in coming weeks is to discuss any border issues, and specifically, problems some Canadians are having getting into the U-S, with the U-S Homeland Security secretary.
The Nexus trusted-traveller cards of about 200 Canadian permanent residents were suddenly cancelled after President Donald
Trump issued an executive immigration order banning visitors from seven predominantly Muslim countries.
That order is currently blocked in the courts, but the Nexus cards are still cancelled.
Manitoba has also been dealing with an influx of would-be refugees crossing at remote border points.
