Village of Alma receives additional support for tourism hub
Ottawa is giving the Village of Alma $300,000 to create a tourism hub in the centre of the village.
In a press release, the government says the non-repayable contribution will be provided through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
According to the press release, the new facility will be located on the site of the former Consolidated School building, and will add to the available visitor amenities and community infrastructure.
Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the ACOA says, "Atlantic Canada has character and a geography that draws visitors from across Canada and around the world. Tourism is of strategic importance to Atlantic Canada. That's why further growing the region's tourism industry is a key goal of the Atlantic Growth Strategy."
The government says this contribution is in addition to an initial investment of $845,631 for Vision Alma's Community Plan for Tourism, which was given in May 2016.
