Wiener recall expanded
Maple Leaf Foods Inc is expanding its recall of Schneider's brand Country Naturals Wieners.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) expanded the recall to include 375 gram packages of the wieners with best before dates of October 22, 2018 and January 2, 2019 (UPC 0 62000 10879 7).
The original recall issued on October 17 was for the 375 gram packages with a best before date of October 15, 2018 and the same UPC.
The CFIA says the recall is because the weiners may contain milk products that are not declared on the label, which could result in a serious or life-threatening illness to someone with a milk alergy.
The agency says there has been one illness reported in connection with the original recall, but none have been reported regarding products in the expanded recall thus far.
The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation and is advising consumers with the recalled item(s) to throw them out or return them to where they were purchased.
