Do we have Clay Cook of Zac Brown Band to thank for helping start John Mayer’s career?

John stopped by the Bobby Bones Show earlier this week and the conversation about his connection to the Zac Brown Band member came up.

The two attended Berklee College back in the day and went on to be roommates.  After college, John and Clay moved to the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia and worked on music together while performing at open mics as a duo.

The two later realized they had different visions in mind when it came to music and eventually had a big falling out.  They went their separate ways and but both became very successful.

The years since, John and Clay have rekindled their friendship and have become very close again. John has even joined Zac Brown Band for a few sets whenever the opportunity has come up. We could see him showing up more than ever now that he has released a song to county radio, “In the Blood.”

It's fair to say we have Clay Cook to thank for getting John Mayer’s career underway and vice versa. There is no denying the pair certainly influenced each other.  Whatever happened in those early days set the foundation for the two to go on to do some big things.
