Alanis Morissette's 'Jagged Little Pill' Musical To Debut In 2018

You, you, oughta know that a stage musical based upon Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill is coming soon.

The Canadian singer’s 1995 blockbuster album — her third studio album in Canada — is set to open in May 2018 at the American Repertory in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The musical will be directed by Diane Paulus with a book by Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno) and arrangements by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal).

“This team that has come together for this Jagged Little Pill musical is my musical theatre dream come true,” Morissette said, in a statement. “The chemistry between all of us is crackling and I feel honoured to be diving into these songs again, surrounded by all of this searing talent.

“Diablo and Diane are already taking these deeply personal songs that are part of my soul’s marrow to a whole other level of hope, freedom and complexity.”

Morissette’s songs will be the backdrop for a story about family dynamics, gender identity and race.

The Ottawa-born singer put dance pop behind her and collaborated with Glen Ballard to create Jagged Little Pill. It spawned numerous hit singles, including “You Oughta Know,” “Hand in my Pocket” and “Ironic,” and earned five Grammy Awards including Album of the Year.

After its run in Cambridge, the musical will likely hit stages in Toronto and New York.
