Audra McLaughlin Forgets Words To U.S. Anthem
Country singer Audra McLaughlin has apologized after forgetting the words to the U.S. national anthem before a recent NBA game in Philadelphia.
“I’ve performed the national Anthem 1000 times in my entire life. That was the first time I’ve ever had a mishap,” she tweeted on Wednesday. “Sometimes s**t happens and I have to say I was pretty upset about it. But I’m human and made a mistake.”
McLaughlin, a finalist on Season 6 of The Voice, was belting out “The Star-Spangled Banner” inside the Wells Fargo Arena when she suddenly forgot the words and skipped ahead to the last line.
“Things happen. Im human and made a mistake. Im not happy about it. I was pretty embarrassed to say the least,” McLaughlin tweeted. “There’s no reason to be a hater or a bully, i don’t associate with people like that. I hope u can understand that I’m human and made a mistake.”
The singer also posted video from a pre-show run-through of the anthem that she captioned: “Well… soundcheck went well lol.”
