An Ottawa punk rock band is getting some global exposure – thanks to Beyoncé.
Certain copies of the yellow vinyl version of Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade contain songs from Zex’s latest, Uphill Battle.
“Due to human error at the Celebrate Records plant in Germany, which Sony uses to manufacture vinyl, a small amount of the European run of the Beyoncé Lemonade vinyl included music from Canadian punk band, ZEX, on Side A,” read a statement from the record company.
“Beyoncé and ZEX were not aware of or responsible for the mispress. Fans who purchased the vinyl will be refunded and given a replacement copy. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.”
Zex is taking the snafu in stride. Guitarist Jo Capitalicide told the Ottawa Citizen: “It’s funny, it’s good to have laughter in life and weird things happen. A bad thing would be if we are getting ripped off somehow.
“Time will tell; we don’t know how many copies are out there, there could be just a few hundred or they could be in the thousands. I have no idea.”
