Bruce Springsteen Receives Special Tony Award
Bruce Springsteen was honoured Sunday night with a special Tony Award in recognition of his one-man show Springsteen on Broadway.
“This is deeply appreciated, and thanks for making me feel so welcome on your block,” the rock icon said after receiving the honour from fellow musician Billy Joel.
The Boss called his show “one of the most exciting things I’ve ever experienced.”
Later in the Tonys broadcast, Springsteen performed “My Hometown.”
Springsteen’s intimate Broadway show, which is scheduled to close on Dec. 15 at the 947-seat Walter Kerr Theatre, has grossed about $85 million from 130 performances so far. It combines stories from his 2016 memoir with his songs.
Previous special Tony Award recipients include Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand and Bette Midler.
