Handwritten 'Hey Jude' Lyrics Up For Sale
A sheet of paper with handwritten lyrics to the Beatles classic “Hey Jude” is up for sale.
Moments in Time is selling the piece of Beatles history for $375,000 U.S.
The paper with Paul McCartney’s handwritten lyrics was reportedly used by John Lennon in the recording studio.
Originally titled “Hey Jules,” McCartney wrote the ballad for Lennon’s son Julian. It was released in 1968 and became one of the Fab Four’s biggest hits.
In 2002, a court in the UK stopped Christie's auction house from selling a sheet of paper with McCartney's handwritten lyrics for "Hey Jude" after the ex-Beatle claimed it was either stolen from his London home during one of several break-ins or was taken by someone who worked for him.
A lawyer for Christie’s had argued that McCartney never reported the theft and had no evidence that he ever owned it.
The lyric sheet was originally purchased by Florrent Tessier, who claimed he paid about $18 CAD for it at a street market in London in the early ‘70s.
